Morning in Montalcino; Midday in Montepulciano

Rose with the sunrise and walked the southern half of this pretty city.  Got some great shots but they are on my phone and I left my phone in Caffe Poliziano in Montepulciano so will post these later today after we return to fetch it.

Nice breakfast

Off on Rick Steve's tour of the Heart of Tuscany Road trip.  Enjoyed Pienza--bought a watercolor,
tasted some peccarino cheese

Lovely view of Mt. Amiata, the tallest peak in Southern Tuscany.

This palazzo was used in the 1970's version of Romeo and Juliet

saw old medieval romanesque church (1100 or earlier) in comparison with Pope Pius II's renaissance church.  Very different!!

And walked the original "Lover's Lane."  Elva adds, "Here is the love of my life:

Then drove through Monticchiello

but went to Multepulciano for lunch.  Had simple picis at Caffe Poliziano.

It was hot.  Then home and dinner at Il Guglio where we're staying.
Elva:  I  love the Italian names of cities and places--they roll off the tongue with beauty; it makes every place seem so much more enticing and adventurous.

  2. Ask Michel to give you a short time of their underground wine cellar..it's in a different building, but really cool. Also, make sure to take great pics at tonight's dinner in Castellina in Chianti! Yum just thinking about it...
