Molta Arta Bella

Florence grows on us . . .

The weather has been perfecto, cooling breezes and occasional very light sprinkle with mostly sunshine

The quality and amount of art works and famous artists/sculptors/architects has been impressive and a bit overwhelming.  Steve visited the Borgello early . . .  really would be great to spend more time here with gorgeous Della Robia enamels and small bronzes and sculptures.

Below is a Michaelangelo of Brutus--even though unfinished, one sees the emotion and movement in the sculpture.

Then, at 10:00 we met Paola Barubiani for a tour of Florence (Walks Inside Florence).   We looked around the Medici palace,  Piazza Signoria,  (Here, where he had induced a bonfire to the vanities, in 1498 faithful witness Savonarola was hung and burned at the stake).

Then more amazing art and culture at the Duomo, Baptistry and the Academia.

No surprise, but she and Elva really hit it off and we had a great time learning about Florence history and the artists, ect. there.
Also she showed us a great leather shop and a fun little back alley lunch place full of locals where we had melon and prosciutto and a great salami sandwich.

Then a tiramisu and cappuchino on a department store roof that had a "front-row" view of the dome of Duoma.

Just when we thought we could not take in any more antiquity, we ended up at the the Duomo Museum to inspect the original Ghiberti doors, and watched a movie on how Brunelleschi built the Duomo Dome and then on the way home saw an "act of culture" in the form of some kind of procession.

Feeling super tired by that time, we headed home with a quick gelato stop on the way.  Although we leave Florence tomorrow morning, there is so much we still would like to see.

Pizza, wine and "Room with a View", shot in Florence, ends our day.

Perhaps there will be a return trip for that in the future.
